Just days after head coach Lane Kiffin and USC applied the full-court press to the former five-star, running back Silas Redd has decided to become a Trojan. Along with other crippling sanctions in the "Sandusky" aftermath, any current or incoming players are able to transfer. They would be immediately eligible at any school they choose.
Redd has two years of eligibility left. He amassed over 1,200 yards rushing as sophomore last season at State College. Even with the talent at USC, you'd have to think Redd has a solid lock on the starting tailback position.
I have no problem with USC looking to better there team. The only question I have is where does the scholarship spot come from? There have been reports stating he will likely get an available due to a current player becoming academically ineligible. If so, that's fine. Other reports have suggested a walk-on losing a potential scholarship or another player giving his up for Redd. Both legal. But I don't like it. In any case, Lane Kiffin has been on a recruiting tear this offseason. Even Nick Saban might want to get his pencil and pad out.
Although Redd transferring from Penn State is rational decision, I do admire the roughly thirty kids (and counting) who have held firm in their original commitment. Also the class of '13 commitments, led by the nation's number one tight end Adam Breneman, who haven't wavered is a welcoming sight.
