Matt Kalil is tall, strong, athletic and dominating. Maybe more so than any offensive tackle in the nation. He is also "set to return" for his senior season at Southern Cal. No doubt Lane Kiffin has a grin on his face from ear to ear right now.
To be honest, I'm a little shocked by this. Many (including me) had Kalil graded as the best tackle in the upcoming NFL Draft and a top 5 pick. He's 6-7 and weighs 300 pounds with frame to add an additional twenty to twenty five if he wants or needs to.
Now, many are wondering what this means, anything, for teammate, Matt Barkley. Only time will tell, but having your blindside protected for another year could add incentive to return. Barkley could be the front-runner for the 2012 Heisman and top overall pick 2013's draft.
***UPDATE***Matt Kalil said his mind has not yet been made, despite reports. “I’m not close to making a decision. That will probably happen in the next couple weeks,” Kalil said. “No decision has been made. I just started thinking about the process I’m going to go through to make the decision.”
***UPDATE #2*** Kalil has indeed decided to enter the 2012 NFL Draft. We think it's a wise choice. Next up: Matt Barkley.
