Dennis Allen Has Inside Track To Be Raiders' Next Head Coach
Adam Schefter has reported that Denver Broncos Defensive Coordinator, Dennis Allen, is the leading candidate to become the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders. They are workin engaged in the "final steps" before it becomes official.
The news is a bit alarming because most thought that new GM Reggie McKenzie would select a coach from Green Bay's coaching staff. Also, McKenzie has an eye for 3-4 talent. Dennis Allen has a 4-3 background. It will be interesting to see Allen fill out his coaching staff. McKenzie has previously said he will only pick the head coach.
The move makes sense because Allen is 39 years old and has defensive background that Reggie McKenzie seemed to be looking for in "his guy." Dennis Allen was New Orleans' secondary coach from 2008-2010 before being hired as defensive coordinator for the Broncos last year.
***UPDATE*** The deal is in place in principle and Allen will be the new Raiders' head coach. It will get interesting to see whether or not he chooses to call plays and who his coordinators will be.
